WEEE, EUP, TCO (don’t confuse with Total Cost of Ownership), EPEAT, 80 Plus, Engel/Blue Angel, Energy Star – there’s still getting more of that stuff.
It’s a new IT branch which is developed by numberless amount of consultants and magicians. Unfortunately it’s not clear how to calculate the balance sheet of carbon dioxide emission for computing centre. Where should we begin? From which one’s foundation construction – the centre’s or server factory’s? The worst scenario is when different computers in different computing centres had been used to make a project of the server factory.
For now I wish everyone a common sense while implementing new green IT solutions.
